Designing Joy with Floral & Field
A few weeks ago, myself (along with Heather from Orange Trunk), traveled just south of the city to meet with the lovely and talented Stephanie of Floral & Field. Stephanie joined Alberta Wedding Social back in May and has been an active and supportive member of the community ever since! :)
Stephanie reached out to me to see if I'd be interested in collabing on a blog at all - and funny enough, I was going to ask her the same thing! So we decided to do a mini photo shoot combining both of our ideas and it turned out just perfect!
Stephanie's idea was to share with potential clients her love for smaller more intimate weddings and elopements and how she uses her beautiful, one of a kind installments to create the perfect ceremony space for her couples. So I took the photos and Stephanie created a gorgeous installment (done 2 ways) and the rest is history!
I am a true romantic at heart and as much as l love a large wedding, nothing is quite as romantic as a small private ceremony or an elopement. That perfect moment where two people simply come together, like nothing else matters in the world, but the two of them! As a floral designer, I dream of creating that intimate moment with the use of flowers for my clients. Designing the perfect backdrop filled with beautiful blooms and wild foliage that create not only intimacy, but a lasting memory of beauty and fragrance.
Since more and more couples are opting to have a small intimate wedding, unique or non-conventional ceremony locations are being used. A space that may have the perfect landscape, but not the intimate moment they wish for.
This is where I can come in to design and create a one of a kind floral installation just for them. Just like this intimate semi-circle I created! It has both fresh and dried flowers mixed with wild grasses creating a natural texture that not only reflects its natural environment, but enhances it.
At Floral & Field, my design style is inspired by nature using loose and organic form brought together by color and composition, creating a raw elegance in all of my designs. You can often find me in my garden or foraging for unique fresh or dried pieces near my rural home. I love to design large artful pieces that look like they have always been there. Like a wild secret garden that has been patiently waiting just for you to share with the one you love, creating the perfect moment that lasts a lifetime.
I really admire the attention and love that Stephanie put into each flower as she placed it into her stunning arrangements. She was intentional with every decision but as mentioned in her own words, she made it look so natural as if it had always been that way.
I personally don't know a whole lot about flowers in general. But what I do know is how talented this beautiful lady is! And how committed she is to creating the perfect pieces for her clients and just as importantly; giving them the best experience possible.
One of my favorite things about photography is when you capture JOY on someones face. Not fake. Nothing forced. Just pure and simple joy and you can't deny that Stephanie's job as a floral designer brings her joy!
I had such a wonderful time working on this with Stephanie and I hope we get to do it again soon! :)
Thanks so much for taking time to read our little blog collaboration. I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as we loved creating it together! - Melanie & Stephanie Xx
Special thank you to Heather of Orange Trunk for the oh-so-pretty wicker chair and pillows! And the non stop giggles of course!
